I love enjoying a meal at a round table . Everyone can see each other and be included in the conversation no matter where they are seated . It ensures that no one ends up at the boring end of the table !

I can't believe it's been 8 years

So many ups and downs and everything in between. . . When this photo was taken I had no idea what the next 8 years were going to entail but I was so excited to find out . Our life together has turned out even better than I ever dreamed it would be and I can't wait to see what happens next! Happy Anniversary, Paul!

How do you feel about

slipcovered sofas?

I have never owned a slipcovered sofa and I am not sure that I ever will . I think all of the examples above look great but whenever I see slipcovered sofas in person they usually look like a wrinkled mess ! I know they have a reputation for being so practical since you can wash them, but I'm not convinced . Do you have to iron them to get them to look that neat and tailored ? If so, that doesn't sound very practical to me . I actually think a wrinkled, sagging slipcover bothers me more than a small stain on a tailored sofa ever would . And putting covers back on cushions is just not fun . What do you think ? Do you or would you own a slipcovered sofa ? Are they practical and easy or are you constantly tugging them back in to place and smoothing out the wrinkles ?

Memorial Day Weekend

Last week was physically hard on me . I started out the week suffering miserably thanks to seasonal allergies, woke up mid-week with a case of poison ivy after working in the yard, and finished out the week with mastitis for the FOURTH time . Needless to say, I was ready for a long weekend .

We got all dressed up for a beautiful outdoor wedding on Saturday .

Riley was so excited to go to this wedding . Not only did she get to wear her new dress but I also painted her nails and blow-dried her hair . She was in girly-girl heaven .

But like any almost-four-year-old, when she saw the playground at the church at the reception all she wanted to do was run around and get dirty and sweaty . So that's what she did  :)

We also took the girls to the pool this weekend . It was Hayes' first time in the pool and she loved it !

And I am happy to report that she has taken to the bottle like a champ !

As mentioned above, after four rounds of mastitis, I am waving the white flag and weaning her . I thought she would be bothered by this but so far she doesn't seem to mind at all .

The rest of the weekend was spent working on things around the house and attending cookouts with friends .

Today I am back to work and stopping by the store to drop off some new items for my booth .

Have a great short week !

An Experiment

I made a mirror a few months ago for our playroom bathroom and completely forgot to post about it . This bathroom is really narrow so this is my best attempt at getting a picture of the whole mirror . I guess I should have snapped a few pics before we hung it on the wall .

I had the idea for something like this floating around in my head for a while but I wasn't sure how to execute it . Eventually I just started experimenting with different materials and patterns until I came up with something I liked .

To be honest, a lot of times my ideas don't pan out the way I envisioned but I really like the way this turned out . The depth and texture is exactly what I was going for and I love the variation in the color of the circles . Now that I have the process figured out, I am thinking about making some more to sell in my booth downtown .

Running Behind

Sorry for the late post today . My allergies are the worst they have ever been and I feel like I have been living in a fog the past few days . Despite the constant itching and sneezing, we had a great weekend .

Saturday I went to Richmond to meet with an old friend/client . I was there to help with her foyer and dining room but by the time I left we also had big plans for her kitchen . Something along the lines of this may be in the works . . .

Sherrill Canet

So excited about this potential project!

Since I was kid-free for a little while I decided to hit up an antique mall near my client's house on my way home. I scored this adorable settee for Riley's room .

I will probably end up recovering it at some point but the fabric actually works pretty well with her bedding and canopy . Riley adores "kid-sized" seating so she was pretty excited about this purchase .

Sunday was spent working in the yard which definitely exacerbated my allergies but we just couldn't put it off any longer . Some of our weeds were seriously the size of small trees - how embarrassing !

Once the biggest offenders were chopped down, Riley and I potted flowers and tomatoes while Paul pressure-washed the brick patio .

I'm going to pick up a new doormat and have the front door painted this week and then I think we can officially consider the spring cleaning of our yard complete for the year . It feels so good to have that done !

It's time

Now that we are entering mid-May I think it is time to finally spruce up our front door and side patios .

I was seeking a little inspiration on Pinterest and came across these beautiful spaces .

(OK - so it would take a lot more than a little  "sprucing" to achieve the look in the image above but what an amazine entrance!)

Of course my efforts will pale in comparison to these images but even a few potted flowers can make a big difference . At this point just running my outdoor cushion covers through the washing machine to get rid of several months worth of cat hair will be a big improvement :)

Camel Obsession

Since receiving this amazing leather bag for Christmas, I have been obsessed with camel colored leather.

Cooper Grey

This bag is so soft and lightweight which is key since I stuff it full every time I leave the house. But it is the color that really does it for me.

So naturally when I saw these, I couldn't resist.

Emerson Fry

I have narrow feet so these are a little wide for me but they are the perfect color and so, so comfortable.

The shoes are my first Emerson Fry purchase and I am sure they will not be my last.

As usual, my obsession is not limited to my closet. I recently scored a camel colored Wassily chair via Craigslist and I am still loving the dose of camel in the images below.

I especially love camel paired with blue. It really brings out the orange tones in the leather. What is your current obsession?

Good Morning!

I hope all of you had a very happy Mother's Day! Mine was wonderful - I got to spend it not only with my husband and my girls, but also with my Mom. It was a great weekend filled with friends, time at the spa and an amazing Mother's Day brunch!

I think it was all a little too much for Hayes. Riley and I returned from a birthday party to find her completely conked out in her exersaucer and my mom sound asleep in the recliner!

Out of fear of disownment I decided not to post any pics of my mom sleeping in the recliner :)

Earlier in the day Mom and I had our nails done. I decided to go bright and bold on my pedicure this time around. I have never done orangey-red nails before but I am really loving this shade - A Roll in the Hague by OPI.

Every time I see my toes it makes me think of warm weather. While we had a beautiful weekend, we have had a bit of cool, rainy weather lately - and today is no exception. Luckily little things like brightly painted nails and fresh blooms in the yard are enough to remind me that warm weather will be here to stay soon.

The pink peonies in my yard are just about to bloom. The white ones have already blossomed and I didn't cut any to bring inside before a rain storm knocked off most of the petals. So, I am checking the pink ones daily to make sure I don't miss out on them this time.

For good reason, peonies are a favorite among stylists and designers.  Even one bloom can make such an impact.

A few things

As you can see I am still working on the new blog design. A few people have told me that they have had trouble accessing the blog recently and others have said that the site is taking a while to load. I'm not sure why either of these problems are occuring and they don't happen when I check my site so I am not sure how to fix them . . . But I am trying to figure it out.

Also, I get a lot of questions about subscribing to my blog. The subscribe button never worked so I finally just removed it. The easiest way to follow my blog updates is to just copy my URL address:

www.RachelBishopDesigns.com

and paste it into the "add subscription" field on Google Reader (or another reader). If you are already subscribed to my blog through my old URL address (www.southernexposure1.squarespace.com) it should still also work. However, if you are having trouble getting my posts you can try to resubscribe with my new address to see if that helps.

Alright, I think that covers everything for now. Please let me know if you are having any issues and I will do my best to fix them. Thanks for your patience while I work things out!
