Getting a decent picture of your kid for the annual Christmas card can be brutal. With two kids to capture this year, I didn't know what to expect but I was preparing myself for a frustrating photo shoot. I prefer to take photos outside and since we live in such a beautiful part of the country we decided to head up to Skyline Drive one Saturday morning and give it our best shot.

There are so many beautiful overlooks of the Blue Ridge Mountains that we had trouble picking our spot.

Once we finally parked and got out of the car we were pleasantly surprised at how easily everything came together. The girls were really cooperative and the weather was sunny and crisp.
We ended up with lots of great photos and had a wonderful time running around. Here are a few that we didn't use for our card.

I was blown away by the beautiful colors and textures of these rocks.

I am thinking about having the images below blown up so I can use them as artwork around the house. I think they are so interesting and love that they exist naturally.

The area we visited is part of the Shenandoah National Park and you pay $10 for a week-long pass to come and go as often as you like. We had such a nice time that we went back the next day to drive around some more and enjoy the scenery. We will definitely visit again in the spring.
In other news, we took the girls to Breakfast with Santa over the weekend. Here is a photo of Riley giving Santa the cold shoulder.

I can practically read her mind: Get this guy away from me. NOW.
She wouldn't talk to him and wouldn't sit in his lap but there weren't any tears so I guess that is a positive.
Hayes had no problems with Santa and willingly sat through her photo shoot.

Less than a week until the big day! The season has been so much fun this year and I am sort of sad for it to be over soon!
