Before & After: Buffet

I saw this buffet in an antique mall a few weeks ago and knew it needed a transformation.

I painted it inside and out and swapped out the glass and curtains for mirrors.

Isn't it amazing what a little paint can do?

Garage Inspiration

We are meeting with an architect this morning to discuss possibly adding a garage onto our house. For now we are just gathering ideas and going over potential layouts. I am sort of envisioning a combination of elements from the following images.

Tumblr

Country Living

Atlanta Homes Magazine

I don't know that this project will happen anytime soon but it sure is fun to daydream!

Would you rather

hang a gallery wall that is an eclectic mix of frames, photos and objects

Decorare

or one that is a uniform group of matching frames and photography styles?

Happy Weekend

I hope you are enjoying this unexpected yet spectacular weather in your neck of the woods this weekend! We spent the morning outside playing hide and seek, running through the backyard and eating a picnic lunch.

(Barely 5 months old and she is already shooting me the bird...)

I hope you get to feel the sun on your face this weekend. See you next week!

How do we feel about mirrors in the kitchen?

I am all for it. Obviously you may have to deal with some grease or water splatter but cleaining a mirror is a whole lot easier than cleaning a painted wall or a tiled backsplash. I am filing this away for my next kitchen renovation.

The first week of January

is usually the cleanest and most organized our house is for the entire year.

Victoria Hagan

We returned from an 11 day trip to NC on Sunday and I have been unpacking, cleaning, and organizing ever since I set foot in the door. I've still got a long way to go but I am making some serious progress.

When this overwhelming need to clean and declutter strikes I suddenly want to paint every room in our house white. (I actually have plans to convert several rooms in our house over to white in the near future!)

Via Brunch at Saks

I wish this feeling would stay with me the rest of the year but it usually makes a small appearance in early spring and then disappears again until the next January.

I guess I need to take advantage of it while it lasts.

Happy New Year!

Would you rather

have colored

or white lights on your Christmas tree?

Bright Sun Full Heart

We have white on our main tree and colored lights on the tree in Riley's room. The colored lights are starting to grow on me...

Blue Ridge Beauty & Santa Claus

Getting a decent picture of your kid for the annual Christmas card can be brutal. With two kids to capture this year, I didn't know what to expect but I was preparing myself for a frustrating photo shoot. I prefer to take photos outside and since we live in such a beautiful part of the country we decided to head up to Skyline Drive one Saturday morning and give it our best shot.

There are so many beautiful overlooks of the Blue Ridge Mountains that we had trouble picking our spot.

Once we finally parked and got out of the car we were pleasantly surprised at how easily everything came together. The girls were really cooperative and the weather was sunny and crisp.

We ended up with lots of great photos and had a wonderful time running around. Here are a few that we didn't use for our card.

I was blown away by the beautiful colors and textures of these rocks.

I am thinking about having the images below blown up so I can use them as artwork around the house. I think they are so interesting and love that they exist naturally.

The area we visited is part of the Shenandoah National Park and you pay $10 for a week-long pass to come and go as often as you like. We had such a nice time that we went back the next day to drive around some more and enjoy the scenery. We will definitely visit again in the spring.

In other news, we took the girls to Breakfast with Santa over the weekend. Here is a photo of Riley giving Santa the cold shoulder.

I can practically read her mind: Get this guy away from me. NOW.

She wouldn't talk to him and wouldn't sit in his lap but there weren't any tears so I guess that is a positive.

Hayes had no problems with Santa and willingly sat through her photo shoot.

Less than a week until the big day! The season has been so much fun this year and I am sort of sad for it to be over soon!
