Do you Blurb?

Photo storage is something I think about often. I actually feel an absurd amount of pressure to do something with all of my photos and sometimes it even keeps me up at night. Despite all of the time I spend thinking about photo storage, I can't seem to make a decision about the best way to accomplish this task and now the sheer number of photos on my computer completely overwhelms me.

I have gone back and forth over the years since Riley was born trying to figure out the best way to get these images off of my computer and into some sort of printed format.

I have finally decided that Blurb is going to be my book of choice. At this point just making some sort of decision feels good.

I actually started a Blurb book over a year ago to capture my blog posts about Riley, family, etc., but I never finished it. Now I have decided to do a book for each year since Riley was born. It feels like it will be a full-time job getting organized and going through 3+ years of photos to get started. However, once I am caught up I am hoping it will be easy to create the books going forward.

How do you display/save your photos? Are they in print or locked on your computer? Do you stress about things like this or am I in need of medication???

That is what I started doing this year for my photos!

Like you, thinking about how to keep my photos displayed, organized and current keeps me up at night. Like you, I tried Blurb. Unlike you (maybe?) I made one book, decided I preferred albums with actual photos, and went right back to making albums, even though it takes 3x as long and is probably twice as expensive. Sigh. I do love the Semikolon Classic 12x12 with linen covers though. And I guess I should be happy that I'm *only* about 15 months behind, at least for now! :-)

Hi Rachel! I feel the same way, even though I upload all my photos to Flickr and pay for the premium membership with extra storage. I STILL haven't created a wedding photo album despite having all the images on CD. I think I even started a Blurb book and then realized it was going to be crazy spendy to print a book on the scale I wanted to and I sort of let the project lapse. But then I found Pinhole Press! They offer standard, uneditable formats, but they're very cute, uploading the photos and adding the captions are easy and the finished product is gorgeous. I've made a newborn album for Ford and am working on a "Big Book of Names and Faces" for him to learn his far-flung relatives! So I would highly recommend that format too. In fact, now I wondering why I don't go print a wedding album on Pinhole....Cheers!

Hey Rachel,
I have 2 separate blogs for the kids. One for Carsten. One for Emery. I kept up with them for about a year. I printed my blogs using blogs2print. They now have their first year, with all posts and pictures, in a hard-bound book. Love it. Now, I have a family blog. I blog mostly about the kids. I have the blog printed each year, so essentially I will be creating my own set of Encyclopedia Brittanica, but about the Snyders instead! By the way, check out: http://melindasnyderphotography.blogspot.com
Just another thing I've added to my plate of full-time working mother!

Thanks for the comments!

Melissa - I love Semikolon products! I use their journals for my daily to-do lists and i buy them in bulk! I am a little worried that I also will miss having "real" photos but I am hoping the artistic flexibility and ability to add text in a book format will make up for it. I guess we will see :)

Ann - I have not heard of Pinhole Press. I will have to check them out.

Mindy - Congrats on the photography site - I don't know how you find time for all that you do :)

Hey Rachel,

Thanks for the post! It's really interesting to read the range of comments. I understand those who still like their photo albums. What's nice about Blurb is that you don't just get the photos off your hard drive, you can then order books for family and friends.

Anyway, thanks again for posting. And I hope we see your book at Blurb.
