Decking the Halls
Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at 5:00AM Since this is our first Christmas in our new house I don't really have my holiday decor completely figured out yet and I've been searching the internet for some new ideas. We are actually spending Christmas day in our house for the first time ever so I feel like putting more effort into the decor this year . Below are a couple of ideas I am considering .

( Didn't save the source . . . . if you know it, leave it in the comments! )

I've posted this one before but I still love it . . .

How do you decorate ? Do you do the same thing every year or do you like to switch it up ?

First one is from an early Cottage Living, republished in Southern Living at some point, I think. I'm taking it very easy with the decorating this year... I miss having the energy to go all-out during the holidays!!
Thanks for the source, Melissa!
Lovely ideas! At our house, I like to switch it up. I do a different color theme for the tree each year. This year, we're doing gold, orange, and the color that Christmas forgot -- yellow. The yellow is turning out to be problematic, not many ornaments come in a saturated yellow. There wasn't even any wrapping paper at Target in yellow, to wrap small boxes to hang as ornaments!! I'll hit a fabric store today, or maybe get some spray paint to squirt into some clear globes. I'm still trying to figure it all out. :)
The first one is from Cottage Living! I loved that image so much I used it as inspiration for my wreaths last year!

this year is our first real christmas in this house we are in. last christmas, we ended up taking everything down basically two weeks after we put it up because the water works had major problems in our basement and a whole studio was displaced. so this year I have realized we are piecing together old and new, hand me downs from our parents as well as a few new things. I splurged on some real fir garland for my little rail out front and i love it. my only complaint about anything is reusing bows: they basically get all flat and kinked after they get stuffed in a box for a year. I am also still anti-real christmas tree indoors due to the insane amount of chemicals and pesticides they spray them all down with all year long. unless it's an organic tree of course!
