Oversized
Thursday, September 15, 2011 at 5:00AM A while ago we removed the cushions on the back of our living room sofa. They were too poufy and our dog sat on top of them while looking out the window so he was basically ruining them anyway. I actually think the sofa looks better without the cushions but it makes sitting on the couch rather uncomfortable because the seat is too deep. I can't stand sitting on a really deep sofa with my legs sitting straight out in front of me like a 4 year old. So far my solution has been to pile a bunch of throw pillows behind me to make things more comfortable but it feels cluttered having so many pillows. I think one or two of these oversized lumbar pillows may be the answer.

Of course it will probably take me another 6 months to decide on a fabric to use.

I have one on the basement sofa, but of course it gets thrown on the floor when anyone sits on it! Of course isn't that what kind of happens with all decorative pillows?!! Do love the look of the lumbar though....
Honestly, all of my decorative pillows get used for making forts :)
I love the look of a lumbar, but I like to arrange my pillows *just so* and there's only so much you can do with a four foot pillow. I really like my five smaller pillows (!) and unlike we thought, they really don't get thrown onto the floor.
On a completely unrelated note, I love those side tables in the last photo. That's sort of the look I'd like for the missing piece of the den.
Ha! Funny thing...I didn't even realize they made these giant lumbar pillows. A few months ago I ordered what I thought was a regular (small) lumbar pillow for our sofa--it turned out to be giant. I'm now using it as a body pillow : ). I think these are pretty but probably not super practical--I feel like you would still need another pillow for your upper back if you were using it as a cushion!
OMG, thank you for posting on this! I'm going through a similar conundrum with my formal living room couch and have been wondering if we could do a lumbar pillow. But I wasn't sure how it would look! all these images are new to me and have me totally inspired. To answer my own question: yes, it will look good. In fact, it could look FANTASTIC.
