Location vs. Light

Via Belle Vivir

I caught up with a friend yesterday (Hi Andi!) who is getting ready to move into a city apartment that is in a great location but the space has virtually no windows (1 in the bathroom and 1 that is underneath a porch). The closest I have ever come to "city" living was when Paul and I lived on the Downtown Mall when we first moved to Charlottesville. We gave up plenty of things for the amazing location - living space, parking, $$$ - but I don't know that I could have given up windows. Natural light adds so much to the feel of a space and it is one of the few things that you can't really fake.

What about you? Could you go windowless in favor of location?

No way!! I think natural light is so important in a home. I could never make it in a windowless abode!

Would be tough. Though if has access to the roof your friend should check out those flexible skylight tubes (wasn't sure if buying or renting). My dad put those in their attic and it's amazing how much light they bring in.

Windows! We installed new huge windows in our living room and dining room and they bring us so much joyous light.

You're making me regret my decision with those images! But, in my defense, I went with this place because the rent is so dirt cheap that I'll have plenty of money leftover to actually be able to leave the cave-like apartment. It's pointless to live in the city if you can't take advantage of it, right?
