Seeing Stripes

I recently suggested striped curtains for a client's living room and they got me thinking about adding some to my own house. I have a pair of black and white striped curtains in our foyer that I made as one of my first sewing experiments. I was proud of them at the time but lately I have been thinking they really need to come down - they aren't the right length or the right fabric and they aren't even lined. I think I may have my seamstress make some "real" striped curtains for my dining room and get rid of the panels in the foyer.

I was leaning towards horizontal stripes but these diagonal panels below are making me rethink that decision.

Which do you prefer? Horizontal, vertical or diagonal?

I would do vertical or the diagonal before i did horizontal. There's something about the straight across that just doesn't flow for me. They look very industrial, like a nautical flag or something. does that even make sense? I think the up and down movement is more elegant.

I have stripes in one room and love them as an accent .. I have red toile and the opposite side is red and white ticking.
Otherwise, stripes get on my nerves lol.
