Play Kitchen

For Riley's birthday, I decided to make a play kitchen for her playroom. I have been working on it for the past few weeks. There are two closets in this room so I had the painters take the doors off one of them and paint yellow and white stripes inside. The internet is full of examples of repurposed furniture being turned into play kitchens. Since we had two old, cheap nightstands that we were no longer using I decided they would be perfect.

All of the knobs turn and the oven even has a light inside.

I was worried that she may be too young to show much interest in it but she actually seems to really like it!

I may have a future chef on my hands!

Wow! This is the most adorable kitchen I've seen! So creative and eco-friendly! I love how you re-used the nightstands. Did you make that sink as well? So cute!

This is fantastic! I'm definitely linking you for next week!

My husband is a major handy man and I've been telling him for years that he needs to build these types of play things. I'll have to mention the idea of repurposing furniture to him!

That is totally adorable and SO inventive. Riley is a lucky little girl!

Rachel, this is AWESOME. My son is a tad younger than Riley and he loves to "cook"-- we have the same Melissa and Doug set. Post a "how to" on yours!

so so soooo adorable! I've looked at some blogs about making nightstands into kitchens but your is by FAR the best! I will have to come back to it for ideas when my daughter is a bit older. For now, she will just have to continue to "cut" her fruits and veggies on our floor. :)

This is GREAT! I SO wish we had space for something like this in our house!!

This is honestly the most unique and adorable play kitchen I have ever seen! I wish I had the talent or know-how to have created one for my kids. They just got a standard issue Pottery Barn kitchen their grandparents bought for them. Now they're a little too old. Thanks for sharing such an inspiring space.

Can I ask how you made the oven light?

July 13, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJennifer

Hi Jennifer - the oven light is just one of those push lights that you buy at Lowes. It has an adhesive so you can stick it to the roof of the oven and then you just push it with your hand to turn it on. Thanks for your comment!
