While my husband and I both agree that we want dark floors, we are in disagreement over the exact color we want - dark walnut vs. ebony.

Both shades are pretty dark, but ebony has a dark brown/black tone while dark walnut has a warmer brown/red tone. Since my husband is sweet enough to let me make 99.9% of the design decisions for our home, I think I am going to let him make the final decision this time. They are so similar I am sure I will be happy either way. In most of these images I am not even sure which color is used. It is really just a subtle difference in tone. But, I am still curious, which do you like better? Ebony or dark walnut? Or do you prefer light floors?
(I am purposely not telling you who likes which shade but if you know me at all, you can probably guess which one I prefer!)

I can't tell ANY difference in the pictures above, but I love dark floors! We had our kitchen floors done dark two years ago, and we LOVE it. We're going to have the rest of the house done to match when we re-do it. I'm sure whatever you decide will be beautiful.
I vote walnut! Like Suz said, the best decision we made when we did our mini kitchen remodel was darkening the floors.
so 2 for walnut?
I vote for walnut too. If we had been unable to refinish the original floors in the house we just bought, we were going to use walnut. Of course, the originals are fir, so they're not dark at all, but at least we saved ourselves several $1000! Looking forward to seeing the results!
Walnut, although both are delightful. I used to be scared of darker floors, thinking they were trendy. I'm now convinced they are a classic.
Walnut! the variations and the different hues are more noticeable. it adds more dimension and interest to the room, I think.
I vote Ebony, with all the other cool grey/blue tones you have going on throughout your home I think the walnut would be too warm...Darker is better in my book!
That last kitchen is my house! I hate that I cannot remember what in the world I told the floor people to stain my floors, but I know they aren't technically Ebony...there is some brown. The floors are refinished., originally they were this gross pencil colored oak. I believe it's Minwax 'Jacobean' or something close to that. Good luck!
Hi Doug - It's funny you brought up Jacobean because that is our current favorite. It makes us both happy because it is darker than walnut but obviously has more brown than ebony. Thanks for commenting - your kitchen is beautiful!
