Out with the old...
Monday, December 28, 2009 at 5:44PM Since we are staying a few extra days in North Carolina, we decided to clean out my Mom's attic. As you can see, she had quite a bit of stuff stored up there.

There were old rolls of wallpaper, bolts of fabric, discarded dishes, dated decor items and, of course, lots of old toys that used to belong to me and my sister. It was a lot of hard work, but also fun to come across some of our old stuff. For example, my very stylish Ken doll:

and some of our old Cabbage Patch Kids.

It sort of turned into a second Christmas for Riley because in addition to her new toys, she now has lots of my old toys and books to play with too!

I got a mirror that used to belong to my Grandmother

and our old play chairs that I hope to use in Riley's playroom eventually.

And thankfully I also found this book to help me start my fitness regimen for 2010 :)

I only allowed myself to choose a few items to take home because I didn't want to have to move a lot of these very same items 20 years from now out of my own attic! It was a great trip down memory lane and it is neat to watch Riley play with the same toys that I loved as a child. What are some of your favorite childhood toys?

oh my god! i had so many of these same toys! the "Get in Shape Girl" workout tape and book, the fisher price house, farm (and we had the zoo & the airport as well), the cabbage patch kids...I would have had a hard time throwing any of that out.
My favorite toys as a kid were my barbies and my dolls. I loved playing house. :)
I still remember the Christmas when I got the Get In Shape Girl ribbon twirler thing, the cassette tape and that book. Oh my goodness, what a fun blast from the past! My mom is a compulsive "thrower-outer," so my old toys are long gone. We made it back to VA for Christmas and had the same wonderful feeling of being home. Happy 2010!
